Travel Route and China Trivia

On October 25, 2012 we will fly from Edmonton to Shanghai.  The tentative plan is to spend the first week in and around Shanghai.  For the second week Sid and I will take a land tour to Beijing to see the sites, including the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.  The original plan was for the four of us to spend the last week in the South China Sea on the island of Hainan.  At the moment we are reconsidering that destination.

China Trivia:

China is the largest country entirely in Asia. China is bordered by Russia, India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Vietnam.

Beijing is the capital of China - population - somewhere near the 20 million mark!!

Flag:

China has the largest population of any country of the world at 1.3 BILLION people, one fifth of the worlds population! 94% of the population live in the eastern third of the country.  It is the third or fourth (depending on the source) largest country in the world, after Russia, Canada and possibly the US.

The highest mountain range in the world borders China, the Himalayas.  The highest point in China is of course Mount Everest

We are off to China!  We will be traveling with Sid's brother and his wife, Gerald and Jyl.  Gerald is doing some work in China and is returning for the fourth time,  Jyl has been twice before and this time we get to tag along!  This is certainly a trip of opportunity for us and we are truly delighted!
